Fitzhugh Lee, grandson of Henry "Light-Horse Harry" and nephew of Robert E. Lee was Major General of the Confederate Army. After the war, he wrote about and taught the history of the South during the Civil War and wrote a biography of Robert E. Lee. In 1885-1889, he served as governor of Virginia. Robert Edward Lee (1807-1870) served as General of the Confederate Army in the U.S. Civil War and was president of Washington College in Lexington, Virginia from 1865 to 1870. Lee spent the first twenty-three years of his military career in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
